Contemporary forms of slavery: the importance of providing suitable tools to safeguard basic human rights
Although there are no longer chains, the concept of slavery is still present and it is growing exponentially assuming forms that are difficult to control or even measure. This is a complex phenomena, may be more dangerous and pervasive than in the past which yields billions of dollars to the economy. There is a need to act quickly to avoid more lives being put into conditions of inhuman suffering, the contemporary forms of slavery. (4 December 2008.

Deepening Knowledge in Human Rights Advocacy
From 2-9 November 2008, this year’s training held at the Kalundu Study Centre run by the Franciscan Sisters of Assisi was focused on the UN human rights instruments and mechanisms, including the Human Rights Council and its newly established mechanism, the Universal Periodic Review (UPR), Treaty Bodies and Special Procedures.
