Advocacy Efforts

Franciscans International has the profound belief that a sufficient mobilisation to respond to the pandemic is absolutely necessary.  To set that into motion, we still need determined political will, an increased mobilisation of resources, and effective access to information – both on prevention and treatment.  It is thus necessary to:

Remove the Barriers in terms of price, market regulation, and research that have been preventing effective access to affordable, quality medicines.

Ensure that the search for profit, in terms of protecting the patents of drugs, is not an obstacle to the realization of the right to physical and moral health for all

Incite states to take the strongest actions in the battle against the pandemic

Make affordable and available medicines accessible to all

Focus on increasing awareness to help fight the discrimination against and stigmatization of people infected and affected by HIV and AIDS

Combine treatment with adequate nutrition

Make all efforts to prevent transmission of the disease from mother to child

Develop actions targeted to put into action the initiatives of governments, international and non-governmental organisations.
