Pax and Bonum, November 2009
Welcome to our third online issue of Pax and Bonum. We are pleased with the response to our August issue which focused on the Universal Periodic Review mechanism, one of the most effective tools that NGOs can use to monitor states’ compliance with international human rights recommendations.
In order to provide you with a better, timely and constant information service, we are pleased to launch our “Pax and Bonum International”. This multi lingual issue aims to be a resource for all non-English speakers and a reminder of the value we give to different cultures.
In this month’s magazine, the theme of Peace and peaceful dialogue is the central theme.
The cover story focuses on the peaceful initiative of the Franciscan Family of Rwanda who walked the roads of Kigali to call for the respect of human rights and peaceful coexistence threatened by the never forgotten genocide.
Environmental challenges continue to be of primary importance as we approach the Road to Copenhagen. It is a long and difficult one as evidenced by recent debates at the international level. We want to believe that world leaders will face their responsibilities and ensure that an eco-just policy is adopted by all nations to protect “Mother Earth”. Only such an outcome from Copenhagen will ensure that we pass on to future generations a natural environment that is sustainable and where humans live in harmony with their habitat, respecting and appreciating the gifts of God, our creator.
Youth are the seeds of our peaceful future and the hope of our society. Education with an emphasis on peace, dialogue and the care of creation is fundamental to our efforts in establishing a non-violent society.
I hope that you enjoy this edition of Pax et Bonum.
Peace and all good.
