Media coverage of your Darfur Week events is essential to taking the empowering message of Darfur advocacy to a wider audience and bringing attention to leaders who should be doing more to fulfill their R2P in Darfur. Visit savedarfur.org for a guide to media outreach.
Write an op/ed for your school or local newspaper about the genocide in Darfur and Darfur Week . Be sure to include specific examples what you think our leaders need to do to address the crisis;
Write an article about Darfur Week activities at your campus and FI will post it on our website;
Write a letter to the editor at your school or local newspaper;
Place an ad in your school or local newspaper that is visually appealing and gives viewers the information (contacts and schedules) needed to get involved in Darfur Week;
Partner with campus radio or tv stations to do interviews or other pieces related to Darfur Week.
Community Outreach
The community surrounding your campus can be an important partner in planning and carrying out Darfur Week . Don't forget to involve religious groups, area schools and community organizations!
Write a story about Darfur and Darfur Week for a newsletter or bulletin at a church or community group to which you belong;
If you work or volunteer at an area elementary or middle school, get your supervisor's permission to work with the class to do an art project in which the students collaborate to make a banner showing their solidarity with children in Darfur;
Is there a refugee resettlement office in your area that has helped Sudanese families? If so, invite them to take an active part in Darfur Week events;
Is there an existing Darfur advocacy group in your area? Google search "your town's name + Darfur advocacy group" or visit savedarfur.org to find out.
Urge your local municipality to approve a proclamation condemning the genocide in Darfur and calling on the United States to take action.
