"Nobody likes nuclear weapons," said Laura Anderson, coordinator of the Clinton (Iowa, USA) Franciscan Center for Active Nonviolence and Peacemaking (CANV), "but most of us feel powerless to do anything about them. However, we can do something if we work together, and the time is now."

Eight promises were made to every person in the world at the turn of the Millennium by 187 countries, Member States of the United Nations. The countries promised: to halve the number of people living on less than a dollar a day, to ensure primary education for all boys and girls, to promote gender equality, to reduce child and maternal mortality, to provide universal access to treatment for HIV/AIDS, to ensure environmental sustainability, and to develop an international, rule-based financial system - all by 2015!

Italian Government accepts FI's UPR recommendations

On 9 June 2010, the United Nations Human Rights Council adopted the report of the Working Group on the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of Italy. Franciscans International submitted an oral statement to comment on Italy's position on the recommendations made by other Member States during the country's UPR review.
