Franciscans International (FI) today, called on the Government of Pakistan to "take immediate and comprehensive action to end discrimination against Christians and other religious minorities" in a statement delivered before the UN Commission on Human Rights.

Franciscans International (FI) Friday, delivered a statement calling the UN Commission on Human Rights to urge the Colombian government to "break ties between paramilitaries and agents of the state" and "comply fully and immediately" with UN recommendations.

"FI's ministry at the United Nations is a new contribution to our contemporary Franciscan charism.  It challenges us to better understand what it means to be a Franciscan in the world today by reminding us of the strongest elements of our spirituality—respect for the dignity of the human being and care for the environment," said Fr. Ilija Zivkovic TOR, Minister General of the Franciscan Friars Third Order Regular.

In a statement at the 2003 Session of the UN Commission on Human Rights, Dominicans for Justice and Peace (OP) and Franciscans International (FI), in partnership with the Human Rights Committee of Dominicans and Franciscans of Puerto Rico, expressed their concern yesterday with the failure of the United States to commit itself to remedy the ecological devastation wreaked by sixty years of bombing on the environment on the island of Vieques, Puerto Rico.
