On a visit to Franciscan friars and sisters here in February, FI Geneva Advocacy Officer Chris Duckett spoke with those who are instruments of change in this troubled region.

Franciscans International’s primary goal is to assist the poor and oppressed, together with our Franciscan brothers and sisters who work among them by voicing their demands at the United Nations. During the 2003 session of the UN Commission on Human Rights (CHR), our advocacy efforts will, therefore, focus on country situations (Colombia, Indonesia, Pakistan) and on global thematic topics (right to development, religious freedom, contemporary forms of slavery, human trafficking, migration) in response to Franciscans’ requests to intervene on such critical issues.

The first meeting of the new International Board of Directors (IBD) of Franciscans International (FI) concluded Monday, following discussions on the history and specific mission of FI, organizational structure and funding, a review of current projects and the election of officers.
