"There is still hope" to reverse the negative impacts of global warming, so assured Dr. Jan Dash at the conclusion of his comprehensive presentation on "Follow-Up to Copenhagen" during FI's first Annual Program in Preparation for the UN Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD-18), earlier in May in New York. Professor Dash stressed that global warming is a long-term trend that began in the 1880s, and that human activity is a significant contributing factor.

In early May, the countries of Kenza, Kiribati and Sweden each underwent their first Universal Periodic Review (UPR) at the United Nation's Human Rights Council in Geneva. Franciscans International attended the sessions to hear their recommendations raised in different member states`reports.
